8 I’ve always been passionate about taking care of unique things—I am an avid antiques collector and reader. I’ve also experienced struggles throughout life and times of having less. Especially in such moments, support from those around me has been instrumental in my success. The importance of community is something that I appreciate firsthand and for which I have so much gratitude. That’s why, now, I donate to more than a dozen organizations. Two organizations I contribute to speak to the lifelong learner in me. I support Michigan Public Broadcasting because I’ve always found its programming valuable. Their content is wonderful for kids, and they are active in the local community. I donate to Reading Is Fundamental, because I remember how much receiving those free books meant to me as a child. I’m a big proponent of objective journalism, so I also support the East Lansing Insider for local news coverage, as well as ProPublica’s investigative journalism, because through partnerships with local newsrooms, they report on stories that can spark real-world impact and positive change.
